On March 31st, early in the wee hours right before the sun/son rose, "Lift Me Up" was released by up and coming producer Joe Lindsay in celebration and reverence of Resurrection Sunday.


Most great things come from a collaboration of like minds and this track is no different. "Lift Me Up" was written by Jasmin Patterson, Din Tolbert, and Destiny Davis. The production comes by way of Joe Lindsay and Ovalord. Strings (which I think create an extra level to the song) were by Charles Schiermeyer. Bass by Marcus Reddick, guitars by Blake Stranathan, and mixed by Dupree.

The inspiration, none other than Jesus Christ *wink*

As many of you know, here at Gypsy Soul, we love to turn our readers on to refreshing, new artists. So allow us to RE-introduce you to Cris Cab- the 18-year old Miami native that has taken the music world by storm with the release of his new mixtape and second project Echo Boom [DOWNLOAD FREE HERE] Early last year, Gypsy Soul had a the pleasure of introducing him to Baltimore and did a couple of media interactions with him.

Far ahead of his time, sonically, Cab redefines the boundaries of pop music, with his Caribbean flare and profound songwriting. It doesn't hurt that he has received hefty co-signs from industry greats like Pharrell Williams and Wyclef Jean. In fact, Cab's music is the perfect blend of Wyclef's vibrant storytelling, and John Mayer's earthy soulfulness, which is sure to cross demographics and musical genres alike.

The lead single off the mixtape, presented by Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club, is "In My Dreams;" a lofty acoustic track about the bittersweet comfortability found in dreams, versus the real world. It's beautiful, inspirational and relatable-which appears to be a common thread in all of Cab's work. The mixtape's title track (and rumored next single), "Echo Boom," is equal parts funk, soul and pop, with Pharrell's signature stoic lyricism, stamping his co-sign- "He got my DNA though its my first time seeing him. 'Welcome to I am other,' that's how I greeted him. The new breed, like colorful new weed. We planted them seeds, now we got them new leaves."

There are artists that grow on you; and then there's that one artist that, the first time you hear them, completely blows you away. Friend of Gypsy Soul, and amazing rapper, singer, producer Dunson is that diamond in the rough.

After spending a multitude of years playing in bands of different genres, the Maryland native took the chance to become a solo artist focusing on lyrics and production- and we are so glad he did. His music is eclectic and infectious; that bob your head kind of music; that move your hips kind of music; that sing along kind of music; that "H.Y.F.R." kind of music. It's hard to pin him to a specific genre. His production teeters the line of rock, Hip-Hop and R&B. He looks like an R&B singer, and he raps like a starving artist- devouring each and every beat thrown his way.

2011 was a breakout year for Dunson, having amassed a multitude of new supporters with the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape Creative Destruction 2. I remember being a freshman at Morgan State University and hearing the voice of Maimouna Youssef as she rapped & sung within a group called Cirius B.

Years later after working with greats like The Roots & Dj Jazzy Jeff, this prolific and provocative woman is blooming for everyone to see.
