Max Bryk, Andris Mattson, and Amber Navran studied Performing Jazz at USC. After touring together as a horn section in 2011, the trio began to co-write and record their first album
Be Free as
Moonchild. Since the 2012 release of their debut album,
Moonchild has been recognized by many of today's most talented musicians and artists including Jill Scott, Robert Glasper and James Poyser.
It is very hard to classify
Moonchild as just a "jazz band." Complete with elements of hip hop, soul, funk, pop and r&b,
Moonchild makes music that shouldn't be categorized. Truthfully, to classify them as anything other than good music would be a great disservice to the level of talent and passion they bring to music.
Max and Andris' production drives
Moonchild's soulful vibe with otherworldly concepts and arrangements; while Amber's vocal ability gives each song wonderful texture that draws the listener in further and further. Their days spent touring as a horn section becomes very useful as it is the perfect accompaniment to their compositions.
Much more than a trio of musicians with a jazz background,
Moonchild combines their raw talent and appreciation for multiple music styles to give their listeners "music for the soul."
