Alice Russell, The Foreign Exchange, J Davey...O MY!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009
Last weekend was a blast! The ladies of Gypsy Soul met the Queen of England ( I call her that) Alice Russell, got a double dose of The Foreign Exchange and the cherry on top was the fact I was able to see J Davey perform for the first time.

Last summer we had the opportunity to sit with Alice but was derailed, this time I was gonna met this magnificent woman and I did. Gypsy Soul was given the opportunity to set up interviews with the song bird at LIV in DC for WMUR and Soulbounce.com. Because of our correspondence through email I knew she was sweet, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it carried over in person. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the show, we had to RACE back to Baltimore. But after doing drops for WEAA 88.9's DJ Lil Mic we said our good byes and promised to do our best to get her to Charm City. (WE SHALL SUCCEED!)

On Friday, at the Black Cat, The Foreign Exchange with Yahzarah & Darien Brockington and JDavey performed to a sold out crowd.

Before the show this Gypsy was able to hang out with JDavey and Gypsy Soul was able to coordinate an exclusive interview for TheFabEmpire.com with the duo. This would be the second time Gypsy Soul has been able to coordinate media for the pair thanks to Audible Treats, thanks Michelle! We dont take the privilege lightly at all!

Back stage I watched as JDavey gave fans some much anticipated new material but graced us with known goodies "Hi Sun" and "Might as Well". Jack did the damn thing and Brook got his jam on

behind the keys, both giving the crowd great energy!

After JDavey said their good nights The Foreign Exchange hit the stage lookin all dapper!

We grooved to hits from the new album and was reminded of songs from Connected that started it all. Yahzarah and Darien Brockington sung their hearts out along side the crooning Phonte. Muhsinah made a surprise appearance and blew the crowd away with her performance.

What made the show so special and extra memorable was the interaction of the artists. Phonte talked to the crowd, Yahzarah and Darien mimed as he told stories, it was all too hilarious and made you feel right at home. In a recession you dont mind spending money if it will you can see a return on your investment and a good night with great music was well worth the price of admission for the audience!
Two of the nights big highlights was hanging out with Darien Brockington, google him...really. Im feinin for the new album! And meeting MUHSINAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! deep breath...lol

Remember that usually when you have a great situation there is probably a wonderful woman somewhere in the mix, and for The Foreign Exchange that woman is Aimee. With her medicine bag, cell phone, and sassy but o so sweet ways she the glue that keeps allows the group to stay creative as she handles the biz! Youre the best Aimee!
