::RECAP:: HOLLIE COOK, ALICE RUSSELL AND YUNA ROCK WASHINGTON, DC
by Daniel Harris

In the midst of a hectic Friday afternoon, three talented women prepared for what would turn out to be one of the most amazing nights of music. While many rushed to put the busy Washington, DC atmosphere behind them (for a couple days, at least) Hollie Cook, Alice Russell and Yuna were all setting up to give concert goers a very memorable evening.

The Lisner Auditorium, located on the campus of The George Washington University, was a great oasis in the middle of a problematic Washington, DC evening rush hour. As the start of the concert got closer, the lobby began to fill with fans of the performers and people looking for a good way to start their weekend.
The auditorium doors opened, the people filed in, took their seats and shortly after, Hollie Cook took the stage. The self proclaimed "tropical soul" artist successfully blends pop with classic reggae to create a very unique and intoxicating sound. During her performance of hits like "Tiger Balm," "Milk and Honey" and "Postman," it was difficult not to sway back and forth to this one of a kind blend. Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of Cook's performance was watching as her own music took her away to a heady and sensuous trance. Hollie Cook was a wonderful start for this amazing night of music.

Just before the end of a brief intermission to set up for the Alice Russell, a fellow concert goer leaned over and whispered to her friend, "You're going to LOVE Alice!" As the lights dimmed once more and people returned to their seats, Alice and her four piece band took the stage. How could anyone NOT love Alice? She is such a powerhouse! Her strong vocal abilities and her deep soulful lyrics are matched only by her strong desire to connect with her audience. Her performance of "To Dust," "Heartbreaker," "I Loved You" and "Hard and Strong" all seemed to be amplified and charged as she fed off the crowd's energy.
During the evening's final intermission, I was asked, "Have you heard of this next artist?" "Yes" I replied, "She is amazing!" As the lights dimmed for the final time, Yuna graced the stage and showed my neighbor that I was not merely speaking in general terms or sharing a cliché sentiment. Yuna is actually amazing. The way she blends the "pop" music sound with her thought provoking and complex lyrics is sheer genius. Her sweet, whimsical personality kept those new to her artistry very well engaged and intrigued. Those of us familiar with Yuna, cheered and danced in our seats when she went into favorites like "Lullabies," "Lights And Camera" and "Decorate." An interesting transition into the performance of"Decorate", saw Yuna taking a brief moment to explain the origins of this song. She used the experience of a good friend and his" on again, off again" relationship as her muse to create a sad and oddly beautiful song.

The evening's final performance capped off a truly unforgettable evening with three talented artists.

::RECAP:: YUNA LIVE AT RAMS HEAD ON STAGE
by Daniel Harris

Singer/songwriter Yuna
In the midst of her first headline tour, singer/songwriter Yuna blessed Rams Head On Stage with a very memorable performance this past Sunday evening.

Not even the threat of an evening snow shower would keep fans from this wonderful experience in Annapolis. Rams Head On Stage is an amazing venue and there was no doubt that it was the perfect place to house this incredible night of music.

Before Yuna took the stage, the evening was set by up and coming, Alternative R&B artist Jarell Perry. Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, Perry was dubbed a "Buzzworthy" artist by MTV in 2013.  Perry sound uses Electronic, Indie-Rock and Pop elements to create a smooth, chilled out vibe.

Singer/Songwriter Jarell Perry
His melodic tones coupled with his imaginative lyrics proved to be the perfect bridge from the bitter cold evening to a wonderful musical experience. Jarell Perry's talent and ability was a bright spot of the evening and he showed Annapolis that he has what it takes to make huge waves in an often convoluted music scene.

Singer/Songwriter Yuna
As Jarell Perry concluded his sensational set, the excitement really began to build as the Rams Head On Stage crowd prepared for Yuna with great expectancy. As she took the stage and before singing one single note, Yuna's beautiful spirit, her grace and charming personality helped to give the audience a very true sense of what could be expected during her performance.

In one word, Yuna's performance can be described as perfection. The singer/songwriter played singles from her albums Decorate, Yuna and Nocturnal including "Deeper Conversation", "Lullabies" and "I Want You Back." Each of these songs displayed her amazing ability to combine poignant lyrics with very groovy, full and rich sound.

And if performing her own songs didn't mesmerize the crowd enough, Yuna moves from a normal microphone to a Voicelive Touch enabled microphone, laid down a quick track and her own background vocals and simply stunned her listeners with a moving rendition of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin' Bout You."

Perfection!

Our special thanks to Laura and Rams Head On Stage for the media access.

::RECAP:: Yuna | Sweet Life Festival & Fans

Photos by Nocturnal Charm

At this year's Sweet Life Festival, Fader Label artist Yuna performed in what happened to be the week her first full length album dropped.

Extremely talented and mesmerizing Yuna drew a crowd full of fan and soon to be fans to the Tree House stage.

She performed songs from her self titled album and to my surprise several audience members sung along with her especially to the closing hit and lead single "Live Your Life" produced by Pharrell Williams.

What was incredibly special about this day was that 5 lucky fans (Monokia, Je, Nakera, Nazaahah, and Qadira) thanks to Fader Label, Cornerstone, and Gypsy Soul were able to attend the festival, view the show and hang out with Yuna.

This was a true experience that they would always remember thanks to Yuna and her team.

::HEADPHONE JUNKIE:: YUNA | Live Your Life

Gypsy Soul favorite
YUNA
is back starting the new year with a new single
"Live Your Life"
produced by Pharrell!

Gypsy Soul got a chance to host Yuna for a small media meet and greet in 2011 as she toured and opened for Raphael Saadiq. Needless to say that the audience in both DC and Baltimore loved her [not an easy feat!].

Take a listen to her new music and get familiar now before the bandwagon is overflowing... lets continue to create our own cool, headphone junkies... ;)

::BEHIND THE SCENES:: YUNA | Decorating The DMV

Being apart of The F.A.R.M. Team with The Fader affords plenty of opportunity for us to come across amazing and diverse talent. I think we've been introduced to the next sensation...seriously.

YUNA
is all the things you want creatively in an artist (unique, can play an instrument, writes her own material and can ACTUALLY sing), substantively in a person (humble, kind, thoughtful, personable) and characteristically in a star (charming, mysterious, endearing).

Her EP released in March, Decorate, is full of songs that capture and turn you into her swaying puppet as she controls and strokes the strings of her guitar...hauntingly beautiful is her music, a direct reflection of YUNA.

We were honored to be given the chance to introduce our media friends YUNA while she visited the DMV. Not only were they all impressed with her they were just as amazed as I was to see at each show how well the crowd took to her. Both audiences in Baltimore and DC laughed, clapped, I'd dare to say even cheered for her and paid her the ultimate compliment by purchasing her album to the point of sell out in Baltimore.

Take at look at the pics below taken by our photog extraordinaires Edith Williams, Nocturnal Charm & Leo Wilson & participating photog Kelly Connelly documenting YUNA as she DECORATED the DMV!

Special thanks to Carlo, WaWa, Sam, Ashley, and Sonia...
