::GET FAMILIAR:: Daru and Rena
by Daniel Harris

Daru and Rena
There have been many successful music duos. From Hall and Oates to Gnarls Barkley, the ability to create good music with someone who is on the same level is a pretty magical experience. One can only imagine how much more magical it is to create good music with family. That's exactly what Daru and Rena does.

 Daru and Rena, a brother and sister duo born in Michigan, have a very creative approach to music that erases all conventional thinking. Both Daru and Rena lend their unique talents to successfully fuse jazz, hip hop, soul, electronic and gospel, delivering a sound all their own.

The foundation of this sibling tandem is built on what Daru calls "Soul-Hop." A successful drummer and producer in his own right, Daru incorporates live drum loops and jazzy samples to deliver a very soulful sound. A good producer is able to not only move the listener's body, they also have an amazing ability to move the listener's mind and soul; and Daru does just that.

Just as Daru has an ability to reach the soul of the listener through his productions, Rena possesses the very same ability with her songwriting and singing. Her angelic voice and sincere lyrics are the perfect compliment to her brother's "Soul-Hop" sound. While Daru's production grabs the listener's attention with its very gritty, deep and heavy sound, Rena is able to hold her own and further draw in the listener allowing for a deeper appreciation of what they both have to offer.

Daru and Rena are wonderful talents both individually and as a group. We really felt that you should Get Familiar with this promising duo. On a personal note, Daru and Rena are one of my favorite music groups. Their general love for people, for music and each other really shines through everything that they touch.

Their most recent release, #Honey, is available on iTunes, Amazon and Rusicrecords.com. Be sure to check out their Bandcamp and Soundcloud pages to get even more familiar!
