There is a lot to say about "What Do I Say?"
I love Gospel music. In fact, I was raised on it. As a music lover, I was always fascinated a lot of Gospel artists were able to deliver very spiritual and hopeful messages while incorporating new sounds and ideas.
From Stevie Wonder's "Master Blaster" being the influence behind The Clark Sisters' "You Brought The Sunshine", to the Funk driven "Is There Any Love" by Trevor Dandy, Gospel's message has always paired well with less traditional productions.
Which brings me to singer/songwriter/producer Joe Lindsay's newest single "What Do I Say?" Lindsay's production for this song isn't what you would automatically default to when you think of a Gospel song, but that is what makes this song amazing. The smooth texture of the composition is enough to keep you engaged in the song but stays out of the way enough to allow the listener hear the message of the song.
And let's be honest, we have all been where Joe's lyrics are. He masterfully crafts lyrics that causes you to introspectively think about those things we do which could be deemed spiritually and morally wrong. With excellent production and thought provoking lyrics, rapper Da' T.R.U.T.H adds more dimension. Now, one could argue that the singer/rapper combo has run it's course but on this particular song, Da' T.R.U.T.H does a great job at summing it all up and answering this question of "What do I Say?"
