Time is a very important element in good music. Now, you may read that and think "well, sure it is! You can't have a musician or singer without a sense of time." True, but that's not where I was headed with that thought. Real musical talent, true musical ability needs to be cultivated, it needs to mature and it must be given time to grow.
Kendra Morris' musical development began as a young girl in St. Petersburg, FL growing up immersed in music. Her parents, both musicians, played in bands together performing gospel in local prison ministries and asylums. Morris often found herself digging into her parents' vinyl stash and immersing herself even more in the music of The Spinners, War, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations.
These experiences would help to shape into the wonderful artist she is today. Kendra's approach to her singing and songwriting shows that she still holds true to her childhood experiences with music. Her raw, powerful voice perfectly marries rock and soulful sounds.
Her latest release, Mockingbird is a collection of rock and roll standards showcasing Kendra's amazing ability to interpret these classics in her own unique way. Usually, covering songs with such weight can be a daunting task but Kendra Morris strikes a wonderful balance by keeping these songs true and pure while giving people a true sense of just how phenomenal her talents are.
Good music takes time, a lifetime. There is no way around it. To create longevity in the music business, you need to be steeped in it. Kendra Morris is steeped in music and she really has what it takes to have a long, successful career.
