We all know that the English have been putting something funky in their water that has been getting more and more potent, evidenced by Amy Whinehouse, Alice Russell and a host of others...well it sounds like someone flew across the world and gave a dose of that funk to New Zealand and Australia! Think Hyatius Kyote and now Brockaflowersaurus-Rex & The Blueberry Biscuits.
I first heard their LIVE EP about a month ago and my ears tingled knowing I was hearing something amazing. First of all, the album is LIVE so no studio tricks to cover mistakes or vocals that are off key, just soul stirring music that made me feel like I was front row being put into a melodic trance. LIVE is only 3 songs but had they placed any more on there I probably would have exploded...all good things in moderation. If I had to pick a favorite of the three "Long Road" certainly spoke to me.The earthyness of the vocals, the content of the lyrics created a beautiful connection with my spirit.
This group of diverse 9-piece "Hip Hop/Neo-soul/Chunk Funk Monster" band of musicians and vocalists are now putting out their, for some long awaited but for me right on time, studio album called Build It on January 24th. I really encourage you to get LIVE and then support the new offering that is coming next week.
This group with a crazy name can do that because they are making crazy good music. I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of discovering their music but now its time for you to get familiar!! Make sure to Like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!
GET FAMILIAR FRIDAYS: Gypsy Soul has been getting
