Strange is beautiful. Now, this probably isn't the best way to start a review. In fact, many of you may read that and think "no, strange is...strange!" But enter Canadian singer/songwriter Allie's latest offering Strange Creature and you will most definitely understand that strange is indeed a thing of beauty.
Collaborating with producer and countryman, 2nd Son, this 4 song EP reaches levels in music, specifically soul music, that haven't been heard in a long time. Allie's deep, raspy, soulful voice is the perfect instrument for her well thought out, honest lyrics.
Generally, reviewers tend not to make too much of a fuss about the music behind vocal skills and lyrics. Production of late has been reduced to being a means to keep people interested enough to buy CDs and concert tickets. However, 2nd Son's production on Strange Creature adds tons of value and proves to be a great compliment to Allie's great voice and beautiful lyrics. "Just Like That" is a great example! 2nd Son's smoothed out, mellow beat is the perfect platform for Allie to build her passionate and genuine lyrics.
Strange Creature is available now and though it is only 4 songs (WHY do good artists do this short EP thing?!) it really should be added to your collection!
