::RECAP:: Georgia Anne Muldrow
recap & photos by Nocturnal Charm

On Friday night Gypsy Soul was in the building for  Stones Throw Records stalwarts,
 Georgia Anne Muldrow
and Dudley Perkins aka Declaime
who descended upon the NowChild Sound Stage
for the last stop of the “Seeds” tour in promotion of Georgia's
new album of the same name.

As a longtime fan of the duo I was in
attendance to partake in the show and capture some images as I do
whenever any of the STR roster is out here in the Northeast.  The
first thing that stood out about these cats was their humility.
Mingling with the crowd and actually being among the audience for the
opening acts just showed that even though they were clearly the
biggest names in the building, to quote the great Doug E. Fresh, “the
only stars they knew were in the sky”. Both Georgia and Dudley
graciously posed for pics, politicked with local movers and shakers
and basically showed Bmore love, the Oakland way.

Gypsy Soul friend and visual artist extraordinaire Donald Ely

Hitting the stage around midnight, Dudley P. jumped started the set with “Keep It
Moving,”
a track produced by another of my west coast faves, Flying
Lotus
. Obviously I wasn’t the only fan of the track because all the
headz in the place went nuts. Feeling the love, Declaime came off
stage and walked through the crowd while spitting, a practice that
he’d do frequently throughout the set.  He and Georgia would go onto
perform a few more songs from their last joint offering,
Someothaship; drawing neck-breaking headnods of approval and
satisfaction from a damn near packed house.

After the rough stuff, it was time for Georgia to do her soul thang…
Beginning with her current
single and underground ode to the welfare of the babies, “Seeds”,
Georgia rode the Madlib-produced blaxpolitation inspired track like NO
ONE else can.  Her perfectly raspy voice ran the gamut of gruff tenor
to shrill falsetto effortlessly.  She continue this mastery running
thru other crowd favorites such as “Indeed”,Kings Ballad”,  and
“Roses”.  The theme of the night was clearly love as Bmore returned
some of the good vibes given to them in song, with gifts.  The
BmoreDilla Foundation was in the house and presented the duo with
t-shirts celebrating the late hip-hop giant.  Uber-talented visual
artist Choke also presented the pair with two beautiful paintings
depicting the pair performing utilizing her trademark bold and brash
style.  This show was more than simply a good time for a Friday
night.. It was a good night for the soul. We need more nights like
these in Bmore.. we need more of this period.
Thanks to Missy Promotions for the access.
