Ralph & Lessy's Point Of View

Anticipating a concert with Silk, SWV, and Head of State (Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill) was well worth the wait on Friday, July 23, 2010. The DAR Constitution Hall was the place to be as each group blazed the stage with their explosive performances.

Gypsy Soul had the opportunity to be apart of the Tapedeck Throwback concert and go backstage and meet the performers before the show. While backstage, we got a chance to sit in on a press conference with Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill.

Originally from Washington DC, Johnny Gill was asked "What do you love most about the city?" His response was "One thing I can truly and honestly say that I like about the city is Barack Obama because he really makes the city colorful."

While backstage, Silk opened the show to get the crowd warmed up. I wasn't able to catch their performance but I heard that they put on a hell of a show.

From the moment SWV took to the stage, we were on our feet, dancing, singing, and just enjoying the performance. They performed songs like "You're The One" both original version and remix, which was one of Taj's favorite song. Coko had the crowd sending her a standing ovation as she gave us all the chills, as she blew Patti Labelle's "If Only You Knew" song out of the water! The put on a wonderful performance and ended it with my all time favorite song "Weak."

Now for the finale! Standing on our feet, screaming out Bobby, Johnny, and Ralph, and then the moment we have all waited for, the performance by Head Of State. Blazing the stage, nailing ever dance move performed by them back in the day. They had me amazed and it felt as though I was watching a flashback of an earlier performance.

Their performance started fast, performing songs like "Count Me Out," "Telephone Man," and "Jealous Girl." Then they slowed it down and each on of them song a slow song like Johnny Gill's song "My, My, My." Leaving the female fans satisfied with roses, the fellas sped it back up and ended the show with Bobby Brown's "My Prerogative."

Each performer never once lost their touch. SWV still looked good, singing and dancing around the stage, Silk still had their sexy swag, and Head of State still had their voice and dance moves, and of course Bobby Brown is still a tongue licking, lady's man.
