For my first day as an Intern with Gypsy Soul, I must say, I can get use to this. From the positive vibe and energy from the crowd and fellow interns, to the Spoken word, Rap lyrics, and Neo-Soul music that each artist delivered last night was just amazing.
Everyone came out to have a good time and a good time is indeed what we had. I got a chance to interact with the audience by pumping IPod raffle tickets and working the door. Once the show was about to start our host Jo’rell Lyrical the Lyricist Whitfield got us prepared for the show ahead...
Jo’rell is a spoken word artist who got the crowd laughing and comfortable as he opened the show with a spoken word piece, an awesome opening to the night.
After his piece he introduced Gods’illa a hip hop group formed by three physical brothers, Ace, Powerful, and Truth, repping PG County, MD, and Brooklyn, NY. I was hyped and in the groove. They performed songs off their new album entitled Gods’illa like “Stuck” and even showed the crowd how they would perform if ever there were technical issue by rapping a'capella.
They had such a positive spirit and their lyrics took you inside their personal point-of-views of real life situations. Gods'illa were previous 1st place winners of MTV’s VMA breakout DC competition and upcoming performers on the Brooklyn Bodega's Show & Prove Showcase. Gods'illa are currently working on their second album.
After their engaging performance, they stuck around to mingle with the crowd for a little bit, sell CDs, take pictures, and give autographs.
Jo’rell came back to introduce the next artist, Ms. Megan Livingston.
Her voice is amazing, she is very original , and only performed with her voice and drum. She rendered a few song selections off her new album Black Beckee. With songs like “Best Friend” performed, she captivated her audience into waiting more.
The audience responded very nicely to her selections and she was kind enough to even come back and do an encore selection. When she done performing, she stuck around to talk with the audience, take pictures, and sell her CD.
The idea of her CD idea was great. She had her case in a form of a tea bag and she also gave us herbal ingredients with a list of facts that the ingredients could do for our body if we began to drink the tea. Given the venue, that was a very creative and thoughtful thing for her to do.
We want to thank Coors Light for sponsoring the event and supporting good music!
